Company Profile

VALANCOURT INTERNATIONAL, LLC (VI) is a fully integrated multi-disciplinary design firm incorporating architects, designers, planners, and experts that specialize in consultancy for various industries. We create solutions that change the way people experience complex facilities. Our special culture and spirit are founded on a unique collaborative approach to clients and communities.

VI provides a comprehensive range of management, discovery, analysis, planning, design, and technology solutions that can be deployed together or individually to meet the needs of our clients and their respective project(s). Large capital projects can be a complex and unique undertaking and only a team that understands various facility types can realistically address and respond to these specific needs.

We work at the intersection of art and science and design projects of every size and level of complexity. We are motivated by taking on difference-making projects that influence the long-term effects on people in the physical environment. What you will find here is passion without pretense; a group that loves coming to the studio every day, rolling up its sleeves, and interpreting the visions of our clients. With a wealth of knowledge and experience, VI will manage your project with a partnership approach to provide the highest level of service.

Among the industries we serve, Airport Wayfinding is one of the most complex, and only a team that understands both Airports and Wayfinding can realistically address and respond to the specific needs of this type of project and its subsequent tasks.  VI has a combined experience at more than 34 airports domestically and internationally and has completed work and maintains long-standing relationships with some of the world's largest hub airports. This extensive list includes Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Miami International Airport (MIA), Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW), Detroit-Wayne County International Airport (DTW), and Dubai International Airport (DXB). In 2018, VI was awarded International Design Award (Gold) for the Wayfinding Signage Master Plan of Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

VI's Managing Principal, David Roberts, has served on an oversight committee as part of the Transportation Research Board's Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP).  He was a member of the project panel overseeing the development of a nationwide airport wayfinding/signage guideline from 2008-2011.  In 2012 the FAA adopted the published ACRP Report as the basis for Advisory Circular 150/5360-12F -- "Wayfinding and Signing Guidelines for Terminals and Landside, 2012."  Additionally, he has been interviewed by several publications including the Wall Street Journal, Airport Revenue News, Airport World, and Passenger Terminal Magazine on the issues that affect airport wayfinding. In 2019, VI was invited to the FAA’s Annual Conference to present case studies for the adoption of the FAA AC 150/5360-12F. VI has since been asked to several FAA Conferences to present and provide input into the level of compliance to the FAA’s Wayfinding AC at airports throughout the US.
